Multinational Brigade South-East
Home | Operations | Exercises | Forces
The Brigade was established as part of NATO’s tailored Forward Presence following the decisions taken at the 2016 NATO Summit in Warsaw and was developed from the Romanian 2nd Infantry Brigade “Rovine”. It achieved Full Operational Capability in 2018 following Exercise SCORPIONS FURY 2018.
With Romania as framework nation, the Brigade brings together Romanian forces and contributions from Allied nations, including North Macedonia, Poland and Portugal. Its mission is to train and integrate assigned multinational forces and to be prepared to command and control NATO collective-defence operations under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Through regular multinational training and exercises, MN BDE-SE strengthens readiness, interoperability and NATO’s deterrence and defence posture on the Alliance’s south-eastern flank and in the wider Black Sea region.
Multinational formations demonstrate Alliance solidarity and NATO’s commitment to the principle that an attack against one Ally is considered an attack against all.
