HQ MND-SE Successfully Completes Exercise DACIAN LANCER 2026

29 May 2026

BUCHAREST, Romania — Headquarters Multinational Division South-East (HQ MND-SE) successfully completed Exercise DACIAN LANCER 2026 (DALA26), conducted from 25 to 29 May 2026 at HQ MND-SE in Bucharest.

The five-day exercise marked a major training milestone in the headquarters’ preparation for Exercise CARPATHIAN ARC 2026 (CAAR26), scheduled for later in the year and serving as the venue for HQ MND-SE’s recertification.

Preparing the Headquarters for Recertification

During DALA26, HQ MND-SE was the main training audience, while Headquarters Multinational Brigade South-East (HQ MNBDE-SE) supported the exercise as a secondary training audience. Both headquarters rehearsed and refined command and control procedures, operational planning, staff coordination and decision-making in a realistic and demanding operational environment.

Personnel responded to a complex scenario designed to test the headquarters’ ability to plan, synchronize and conduct military activities across all functional areas. The training focused on operational effectiveness, the application of established procedures and coordination among multinational staff members working within a NATO framework.

Turning Training into Improvement

As part of the headquarters’ training and evaluation cycle, DALA26 enabled HQ MND-SE to assess its preparedness, identify lessons and areas for improvement, and refine procedures ahead of CAAR26. It also strengthened cooperation and interoperability with HQ MNBDE-SE by developing a shared understanding of operational processes and command relationships.

The lessons identified during DALA26 will support follow-on training and corrective actions during the final stages of preparation for CARPATHIAN ARC 2026.

Maintaining Readiness

The successful completion of DACIAN LANCER 2026 demonstrated the professionalism, dedication and expertise of the participating personnel. It further strengthened HQ MND-SE’s ability to plan, coordinate and conduct operations in support of NATO’s collective deterrence and defence posture on the Alliance’s South-Eastern Flank.

By achieving its training objectives, DALA26 contributed to maintaining a capable, adaptable and ready headquarters, prepared to demonstrate its ability to fulfil assigned operational responsibilities during the upcoming recertification.
