DACIAN STRIKE 2023
Over 600 Romanian and allied soldiers, with military assets, participated at “DACIAN STRIKE 2023” (DAST23) at Smardan Training Area, Galati county. The exercise was planned and led by Headquarters Multinational Division South-East.
On DVDay, during the live fire sequence, the HQ MND-SE Commander, Major General Dorin TOMA was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Gheorghita VLAD, Georgian Chief of Defence, Major General Giorgi MATHIASHVILI, Chief of the Romanian Land Forces Staff, Major General Ciprian MARIN and other military representatives.


DAST23 is a joint command post exercise aiming to train and validate the Joint Fires Effects Team. It is a part of “DACIAN STRIKE” series, being the first iteration of this year, promoting Air Land integration in NATO Force Structures through the use of Tactical Air Command and Control.
The exercise’s success was ensured by the various participation of soldiers and assets from the Romanian Battlegroup (France as framework nation), Bulgarian Battlegroup (Italy as framework nation), structures from Headquarters Multinational Brigade South-East (Romanian infantry platoons and one Portuguese infantry platoon), Military Information Brigade, 1/3 US BCT and 52nd LAROM Regiment. They were joined by the 10th (US) Mountain Division, Romanian Air Force and the Italian Enhanced Air Policing Detachment.
”What we are trying to create at MND-SE is tactical C2 in a land echelon below the core level (…) We are trying to develop a model manned by the host nations and provide the tactical C2 capabilities at the division and lower.
