Forward Land Forces Battle Group Romania is one of NATO’s multinational battlegroups deployed along the Alliance’s south-eastern flank. Established in 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it is led by France as framework nation and currently includes forces from Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Spain.

The Battlegroup is based at Camp Général Berthelot in the Cincu Training Area and operates under the command of Headquarters Multinational Division South-East.

It trains continuously alongside Romanian and other Allied forces, strengthening its ability to conduct multinational, combined-arms operations. The Battlegroup is a fully combat-capable, flexible and interoperable formation that can be reinforced and scaled up to brigade size, where and when required.

Its presence strengthens NATO’s deterrence and defence posture in Romania, on the Alliance’s south-eastern flank and in the wider Black Sea region. It also demonstrates Alliance solidarity and NATO’s commitment to the principle that an attack against one Ally is considered an attack against all.
