DEPUTY COMMANDER
Brigadier General (FR) Cyril MATHIAS
Brigadier General Cyril MATHIAS assumed duties as Deputy Commander on September 1st 2025. Prior to his current assignment, he served as DCOS Plans and Policies within the Combined Arms Training Command of the EUMAM, Poland.
Brigadier General MATHIAS received his commission in 1995, and, after his initial officer training, he served in 11th Regiment d`Artillerie de Marine and took the command of the regiment in 2014. Before that, in 1999, he joined the 9th Marines Infantry Regiment in French Guiana. He served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris in 2003. In 2008 he was in Senegal, as the head of the military higher education office. He joined the 6th Light Armoured Brigade as chief of staff in 2016, then he was assigned to Combined Arms Combat Training and Schools Command. In 2021, he served at Army Staff as head of the activities section.
Brigadier General MATHIAS’s staff assignments include: UNMOC in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Operations in Albania and in former Yugoslavia, Fire Support Coordination Cell, in Afghanistan, Operation BARKHANE as part of the JOINT CP, serving as the head of the Coordination and Liaison Cell. He also served in the EUTM Mali mission as the head of the advisory branch.
He earned his commission and a bachelor’s degree from the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr. He completed his studies with senior staff course at the Joint Defence College.
He is married to Veronique Mathias and they have four children.
